Well, we're 10 days into 2012... now is the time that many people give up on their New Year's Resolutions. They let the dust start piling up on those workout videos and the treadmill that was purchased with good intentions, and start thinking that the pain & change isn't worth it. Change is not easy. Change usually isn't fun. But change is most definitely worth it if you can stick it out!
You have to make the change a lifestyle-change, and not a 'drop ten pounds then go back to being lazy' change. The length of time that it takes to make this change a habit is debatable... some sources say 21 days, some say 66 days. I think that it depends on the individual and their willpower! Granted, I am not a psychologist nor do I have any expertise or studies in habit formations. I speak from my own personal experience and from my experience in helping my clients develop a healthier lifestyle!
So what can you do?
One way to stay on track is to involve yourself with a group. There are several great articles that discuss the benefits of group exercise versus individual exercise. In an article on the Everyday Health website, it says, "'Working out in a group provides support, accountability, and
structure,' says Lynne Vaughan, Chief Innovation Officer of the national
YMCA. 'People don't want to let their buddy or group down, which is
terrific in terms of adherence to an exercise routine.' Patient information published in 2005 in the Journal of American Academy of Physician Assistants also recommends that people exercise with a partner or group because they 'are more likely to stay on track.'" What are your goals?
Better ab's...
Run a certain race or improve your time...
No matter what your fitness goal is, we all need to work on our nutrition...
If you are interested in getting healthier, I can help you develop a plan. We will work out goals and a plan that works with your lifestyle to help you achieve them. I also have group fitness classes in Springfield (Bootcamp, H.I.T. Classes, and Beginner Bootcamp) that you can become involved with. Each class has a great mix of clients, and everyone is there for the same reason: to get healthier. There are people that have never worked out a day in their lives, and people that have worked out for years. Your fitness level does not matter, as we can modify the workout to be beneficial yet challenging for you. If the thought of a group class makes you cringe, I also have Personal Training available for individuals or small groups. This can take place at the gym, on location (your house, the park, etc.- it's up to you!) or via online communication (skype, etc.- this is great for those that are out of the Springfield area but would like to train following my techniques!)
Call me today at 417.839.8186, email me at trainingbyjen@hotmail.com, or send me a message on Facebook. I would love to help you achieve those goals!
